    Paint the cove!

    Mark Shasha (submitted)

Does your Creative Jones ever wish you’d been around to be part of the once-plentiful New England arts colonies? Locally, there was the Old Lyme Arts Colony! The Mystic Arts Colony! And the arts colony on Broad Street in New London, located near the Slushie machine in the 7-Eleven!

    Colorful times!

It’s not too late – at least for one day. On Saturday in the Pavilion at Ocean Beach Park, renowned artist Mark Shasha will conduct a master class at the first annual Alewife Cove Arts Festival. He’s a former student at Rhode Island School of Design whose work has been shown from L.A. to New York and including Lyman Allyn Art Museum.

The first 50 adult and student registrants will study with Shasha and paint the lovely and titular cove. Go to alewifecove.org to see a list of recommended materials to bring to the class.

Alewife Cove Arts Festival, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Pavilion, Ocean Beach Park, 98 Neptune Ave., New London; $33.85 adults, $12.81 students; alewifecove.org.
