Small boats, going fast
My wife Eileen and I recently returned from a vacation to Alaska. Wonderful! To be precise, we watched a travel documentary on Alaska because that’s the only way we’d ever be able to afford a real vacation anywhere that isn’t called “Yantic.”
I was reminded of this with news that, on Saturday, Mystic Seaport will host the annual Model Yacht Regatta. Y’see, a miniature yacht is our one hope to get close to a luxury vessel.
This year’s races feature International One Metre class boats and will take place at the north end of the museum off the floating dinghy docks. The regatta is sponsored by the Mystic River Radio Sailors (AMYA Club #39) in association with the American Model Yachting Association.
The public is welcome to watch the competition, and it’s free with regular admission.
Model Yacht Regatta, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Mystic Seaport, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic; $31 adults, $29 seniors (65+), $27 youth (13-17), $21 children (4-12) and free kids three and under; mysticseaport.org.
