Luis Miguel sings at Mohegan Sun

    Luis Miguel (luismigueloficial.com)

You probably don’t know singer Luis Miguel. I certainly didn’t — and this is my JOB.

However, Miguel is … well, let’s put it this way:

In terms of pop idols, Elvis was sort of the English-speaking world’s Luis Miguel. In terms of sophisticated crooners, Frank Sinatra was sort of the English-speaking world’s Luis Miguel. In terms of starting out young and sustaining an ascending career arc, Taylor Swift could be compared to Luis Miguel (though he’s 20 years older and still shattering attendance and sales records four decades after he started).

Finally, Miguel has explored a huge variety of musical styles and been successful at all of them.

You get the idea. Miguel — maybe the only major Latin artist to at some point never crossover into English — is a global superstar who hits the Mohegan Sun Arena on Sunday. It’d be interesting to see what’s so special about this artist – but good luck getting a ticket.

Luis Miguel, 7 p.m. Sunday, Mohegan Sun Arena; $66 and up; mohegansun.com.
