    Forever Young

    Young Dubliners (submitted)

The excellent Irish rock band the Young Dubliners formed in 1988 – which means that, technically, they’re no longer “young.” But that’s OK. That’s how we know and love them.

After all, no one expects Neil Young to change his name to Neil Old, right?

The Young Dubliners play The Kate in Old Saybrook on Wednesday. It’s been several years since their last album – 2013’s “Nine – 9 -Naoi” -- but they have a very strong catalog and are actually engaged in a fund drive to raise money for a new recording.

This suggests that, in addition to performing hits and deep cuts (“These Days” from “Absolutely,” anyone?), fans might well get to hear tunes penciled in for the next CD.

The Young Dubliners, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center, 300 Main St., Old Saybrook; $40; thekate.org, (860) 510-0453.
