Pete Seeger Tribute in New London

An array of local musicians will stage a concert in honor of Pete Seeger, above, and as a benefit for Save the Sound, the sort of environmental cause Seeger espoused.

Pete Seeger passed away in January, but it didn't take long for local fans, friends, musicians and activists to spring into action as he'd have wished.

On Friday, the Friday Night Folk at All Souls series in New London hosts a Pete Seeger Tribute. The show benefits one of the late musician's premiere causes: Save the Sound, an organization devoted to restoring and protecting the waters and shorelines of Long Island Sound. Seeger's sloop, the Clearwater, was based on the Hudson River and served as headquarters for many of his environmental projects.

A fine array of talent from across our area is performing at the tribute, including Geoff Kaufman, Hugh Birdsall, Sherwood, Bill and Kay Pere, Jay Franklin, Nick Evento, Lorain Ohio and Scott Mayfield, Bil Groth, Barbara Harvey, Marcus M. Worthington, The Carolans, Sandy Pliskin, Marilyn Lowney, Dan and Liz Spurr, Madry Temple Choir, Grace Glynn, and Arlene and Friends.
