Cellar Gang to perform at Jabez Smith House

Members of the Cellar Gang will perform traditional folk music and seasonal holiday selections between 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday during an open house at the Jabez Smith House, 259 North Road, Groton.

The five women perform on hand-made wire strung instruments built by their own hands under the tutelage of Frank Murphy, a former Mystic Seaport carpenter. Instruments include Celtic harps, psalteries and hammered dulcimers. The women will discuss the building of the instruments and answer questions.

The Jabez Smith House, a colonial farmhouse owned by the Town of Groton, has remained virtually unchanged since it was built by Smith around 1783. Deeded to the Town of Groton in 1974, the house was occupied by Smith’s descendants until 1980.
