      Event Description:
Studio 33 Art & Frame Gallery is pleased to present the Three Friends Exhibit September 9, 2022 – November 5, 2022, featuring the maritime paintings of local artists Robert J. Hauschild 1941-2012, Phil Cutting 1934-2017, and John McGuire. We welcome all visitors to the CT Maritime Heritage Festival on Sat. Sep 9, 22 through the weekend, to our maritime themed exhibit. Robert J. Hauschild’s father was a commercial artist, as a child he was given full access to paint, paper, and brushes, his favorite watercolor and acrylic paintings would include what he knew-his early playground along a river with ferries, tugs, and lighthouses. Hallmarks of his paintings are hard edges, dramatic shadows and stark contrasts between dark and light falling upon the surface of the canvas. His work has been described as surreal and mystical in style and subject. His watercolor paintings have been reproduced on four New London Main Street posters. Phil Cutting, known as “Capt. Phil” professionally, was a radio personality and marine reporter. He loved anything to do with Long Island Sound, in his retirement he volunteered at Mystic Seaport and became an avid watercolor and pastel artist. John McGuire paints watercolor landscapes and seascapes based out of the New London – Waterford, CT area, Studio 33 carries his beautiful greeting cards featuring his watercolors of local scenes as well!

Talk and Tour: The History of the Southeastern Connecticut Jewish Community

      Event Description:
At the invitation of the Waterford Historical Society, Inc., Rabbi Aaron Rosenberg, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Emanu-el, will review the amazing stories of the ever-evolving local Jewish community – from the first arrivals in the 1800’s, to the Jewish farmers of Chesterfield, the diverse synagogues, the Jewish immigrants from the Former Soviet Union, the local colleges and the Coast Guard and Sub Base – and the contribution of Jews to commerce, politics and the community at large. He will discuss occasional incidents of anti-Semitism and speak of the challenges of an aging and diminishing community to remain relevant and vibrant. A native of Chicago, Rabbi Rosenberg graduated from Indiana University before attending Hebrew Union College, where he was ordained in 1974. He served congregations in Springfield and Cleveland, Ohio before becoming the Rabbi of Temple Emanu-El in Waterford in 1980. Since 2015, he has been Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Emanu-El. He has also served as the Jewish Chaplain at Connecticut College, President of Waterford Rotary Club, Secretary of the Greater New London Clergy Association, and currently is President of the Waterford Public Library Board. He is married to Karen Rosenberg, former Head of School of Solomon Schechter Academy.
