    Tox or bust!

The two most widely used add-on suffixes in the English language, according to both Daniel Webster and Samuel Jonson – which we know because they used to send each other joke words just to see if the other guy was paying attention – are “-gate” and “-stock.”

After the political scandal called Watergate, all subsequent scandals are now required by legislation to include the suffix “-gate.” PIzzagate, the fact-packed conspiracy theory about Hillary Clinton and Tom Hanks conjuring Satan and sharing slices with pedophiles in a D.C. pizza shop, is probably the most famous post-Watergate use of “-gate.”

“-stock,” on the other hand, comes from the Woodstock “three days of peace and music” soiree; literally billions of events, parties, concerts and festivals have since appropriated “-stock” – and it’s an altogether more pleasant association than if you add “-gate” to your happening.

So it is Saturday in New London when Tox Brewing presents Toxstock ’22. There will be music, food trucks, commemorative Silipints, ducats for special pours, a Tox T-shirt you can tie-dye on-site and more. Much, much beer, of course. AND … Hendrix will headline at dawn after everyone has already gone home.

Toxstock ’22, noon-9 p.m. Saturday, Tox Brewing Company, 635 Broad St., New London; $35 includes all the goodies; free for regular guests without the bonuses; https://bfest.in/tox.
