HOW TO: SUBMIT AN EVENT
Everyone has a story to tell. Writer Mary Karr describes writing memoir as “splitting open the hard seed of the past.” In this four-part workshop, we will use our memories of food as an invitation to find the seeds of our stories.
We’ll meet fireside on Monday mornings in March in the Manor House on Stone Acres Farm. Writers will have the option of meeting before class for a meditative walk on the farm. Sessions will include reading and discussing excerpts from notable food memoirs, responding to in-class writing prompts, and the opportunity to share and give constructive feedback. Extra-curricular readings and writing assignments will be offered.
Sara McLanahan Edlin has been writing memoir for as long as she can remember. She is a member of the Memoir Writers Workshop at the Hudson Valley Writers Center and has studied fiction and memoir writing with Grub Street in Boston, MA and Gotham Writers Workshop in New York City. Sara has Masters degrees in Education and Library Science and has been helping people learn for her entire career. Sara moved to Stonington in 2020 and is excited to connect with the memoir writing community here.
Class size limited to 8 people. No memoir writing experience required. Cost: $200
