Mystic Seaport Museum transforms into a Lantern Light Village, bringing 19th-century history and traditions to the holidays.

This outdoor, self-guided event starting Friday boasts everything from horse and carriage rides to holiday-themed activities like crafts and games.

Since it is named Lantern Light Village, of course there will be light displays. St. Nicholas will turn up as well.

There will be live music, with chanteys and singing by local choirs. The latter are: Stonington High School Chamber Choir Dec. 8, 9 and 23, Stonington Madrigal Singers Dec. 15 and 16; and CT Yuletide Carolers Dec. 21 and 122.

And last but certainly not least: the theatrical event “Holiday Heirlooms” serves up the tale of the Noyes family at the Lantern Light Village, and it delves into how Christmas traditions morphed between 1851 and 1893.

    Lantern Light Village, Mystic Seaport Museum, 75 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic; 5-8 p.m. Dec. 8, 9, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23; $29 for ages 13 and up ($24 for members), $24 for ages 4-12 ($19 for members), free for up to age 3: (860) 572-0711, mysticseasport.org.
