Monday is Earth Day, and organizations are hosting events to celebrate.

The UConn Avery Point EcoHusky Club will hold its annual Earth Day Celebration from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday at the campus in Groton. This free event, which will be outdoors if the weather is good and indoors if it’s inclement, is open to everyone. Connecticut Sea Grant and other groups and organizations will offer educational materials and activities.

The Community Foundation of Eastern CT is holding a program focused on the intersection of environmental justice and climate resiliency from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at Mystic Aquarium.

The organization described it this way: “Hear from nonprofit, municipal and tribal advocates who are implementing conservation strategies while increasing equitable decision making and access to nature. Learn from local experts how you can take steps to support regional efforts to mitigate the challenges presented by climate change.”

Speakers are Tim Clark, who is a landscape architect and the resilient southeastern Connecticut program director with The Nature Conservancy in Connecticut; Cierra Patrick, the economic development manager at the City of Groton; and Rahiem Eleazer, a member of the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation who has worked in the environmental sector for five years, and currently serves as the environmental liaison for the MPTN.

On this Saturday, the Groton Public library will host an Earth Day Expo: Planet Vs. Plastics, with exhibitors, crafters and food vendors, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center in Mystic is marking Earth Day next Saturday, on April 27. The event then will include hikes, wildlife demos, nature crafts, a scavenger hike and more.
