The Alexey von Schlippe Gallery in Groton is featuring “Sense of Place,” an exhibition that boasts work by 32 local artists, through June 15.

Artists from New London, Groton, Stonington, Mystic, Old Lyme, East Lyme, Waterford, Uncasville and Preston are exhibiting photographs, prints, and paintings that speak to their interpretations of the theme “Sense of Place.”

With the goal of learning about the work of area artists, the AvS Gallery created a call for art, and was assisted by art community partners at the La Grua Center, Hygienic Art, Lyme Art Association, Mystic Museum of Art, the Lyman Allyn Art Museum, and others to publicize the call. An exhibition committee convened by the AvS Gallery had the challenge to create a coherent exhibition that reflected diverse media from the 130 artwork submissions.

Gallery hours are noon-4 p.m. Thurs.-Sun. Admission is free. The gallery is located on the University of Connecticut’s Avery Point campus at 1084 Shennecossett Road in Groton.

Comment threads are monitored for 48 hours after publication and then closed.
