It Jumped Into My Cart: Imperial Delights Crackers

In my never-ending search to find a great cracker to replace the now-discontinued Red Oval Farms Stoned Wheat Thins, I came across these gems at Ocean State Job Lot: Imperial Delights Artisanal Crackers. It’s a rustic, sturdy crostini cracker with plenty of puffy lightness. Think of a plain Pepe’s pizza crust, with a little olive oil, baked in a low oven to golden perfection. Perfect for topping with just about anything or dragging them through the thickest dips or hummus. Or straight out of the bag.

If the taste and crunch don’t get you all excited, the price will. $2.50 for a 8.5 oz bag. If you’ve ever compared the price of similar imported crostini from the “gourmet” sections of the local markets, you’ll note that they carry packs that are under 7 oz and start at around $6.

Best of all, the crackers aren’t one of OSJL’s incredible overstock deals. They’re imported from Italy through a distribution deal with Star Foods of NJ and they should have a steady presence on the shelves at Job Lot. Alan Perlman, OSJL lead food buyer, tells me, "We tested two flavors of the Imperial Delights crackers: garlic and sea salt ... Those flavors did so well that we have placed another order for those two flavors, and we will bring in two additional flavors: poppyseed and sesame seed flavor and olive flavor. Our customers are enjoying the crackers so we will do our best to keep them stocked!"

My Rating: Taste 9/10, Texture 10/10, Price 10/10.
