    High school roundup: Big day for Ribeiro leads Stonington girls to final of Westerly tournament

    Westerly — Zoe Ribeiro finished with 24 points, 12 rebounds and three steals as the Stonington High School girls' basketball team held on for a 53-48 victory Thursday night over Chariho in the opening round of the 36th Annual Westerly Community Credit Union Holiday Tournament.

    The Bears (2-0) will meet South Kingstown in the championship game beginning at 8 p.m. Saturday. The boys' portion of the tournament is slated to begin Friday.

    Sophia Bell added 12 points, 20 rebounds and four steals for Stonington, which led 32-17 at halftime, and Anne Drago had 10 points.

    • Montville remained unbeaten by defeating Wheeler 57-32 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division IV game that was also a semifinal in the Grasso Tech Holiday Tournament.

    Antonio Brown had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Ethan McKinney had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Indians (3-0), who led 22-8 after one quarter and 34-15 at halftime.

    Bernard Hawkins scored 12 and had four steals and Eddie Reyes had eight assists for Montville, which will play Grasso Tech in the championship game at 6 p.m. Friday.

    Bowen Baker led Wheeler (1-2, 0-1) with 14 points. The Lions will meet Norwich Tech in the consolation game at 4 p.m. Friday.
