    Sullivan (4 goals) leads Lancers, 7-4

    Stonington - Shane Sullivan had four goals and an assist as the Waterford High School boys' lacrosse team beat Stonington 7-4 Saturday in an Eastern Connecticut Conference game, earning the Lancers their first state tournament berth.

    Waterford (7-5, 5-1) is in its second season as a varsity program. The Lancers won all four of their games last week.

    Jason Goddu and Ryan Hesney each had a goal and an assist for Waterford. Jordan Munsell added a goal. Also, Donnie Bickford had an assist and Zach Jerome made 13 saves.

    Jeff Pearce scored twice for Stonington (8-5, 5-1) and Alex Gosselin added three assists. Shane Ballestracci and Pat Stonley each added a goal.

    â–  Billy Wanstall had two goals and three assists and Brian Young added three goals and an assist as Wheeler beat Wilbur Cross of New Haven 9-5. J.T. Smith scored three times for Wheeler (5-6). Casey Trasacco had two goals for the Governors (0-12).

    â–  A.J. Leary had four goals and Kevin Leary three goals as Guilford beat Norwich Free Academy 8-2. Guilford (10-3) out shot the Wildcats, 43-15. Connor O'Rourke and Eric Swanson scored for NFA (8-6) and Matt Lavallee added 17 saves.

    â–  Matty Cohen had three goals and Danny Williams two in East Lyme's 15-7 loss to Glastonbury. Ryan McCarthy scored five times for Glastonbury (7-4). East Lyme is 12-2.

    Girls

    â–  Taylor Shannon had four goals and Christine Lillis three goals as Waterford beat Stonington 11-7 in the ECC Small Division. Olivia Norris, Julie Lavoie, Lexi Shine and Sandy Scarpa scored for Waterford (9-4, 5-1) and Zaffy Vitsas added 16 saves. Vanessa Yolen and Claire Chambers each scored twice for the Bears (4-8, 2-3).

    â–  Aly DiCiancia had five goals as East Catholic of Manchester beat Old Saybrook, 11-5. East Catholic is 8-6. Mairin Finnegan scored twice for the Rams (2-9) and Caroline Bruno, Sarah Schuster, Maura Woods each added a goal.
