Roundup: Wilhelm hurls no-no for Falcons
Groton - It was a most auspicious varsity debut for Roslyn Wilhelm on Friday.
Wilhelm, a sophomore left-hander for the Fitch High School softball team, pitched a no-hitter, leading the Falcons to a 4-0 win over Montville.
Wilhelm struck out eight and walked four.
"She's a lefty with good speed. And she's accurate," Fitch coach Kate Peruzzotti said. "A deadly combination."
Avery Clark had three hits and a run scored for Fitch (4-1). Montville is 2-2.
In other games:
• Nina Wojtkiewicz, Sam Rentz, Jess Synott and Brianna Gosselin had two hits apiece as Griswold defeated East Lyme 11-3.
Winning pitcher Kirsten Drobiak struck out four for the Wolverines (5-0). East Lyme's Abby Young had two hits, including a two run homer over the left-field fence in the fourth inning. The Vikings are 1-3.
• Melissa Castillo pitched a three-hitter and went 3-for-3 with three RBI, leading Norwich Free Academy past Windham, 9-1.
Castillo struck out eight and walked one while Gabby Chinigo doubled, tripled and homered, finishing with three RBI, and Ally Blanchette went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Wildcats (4-0).
• Becky Scott and Lauren Fitzgerald each homered as Morgan handed Old Saybrook its first loss of the season, 5-2, in the Shoreline Conference. Cat Wilkinson picked up the win for Morgan and Rachel Spotts added a double. Kasey Commander went 2-for-4 with an RBI for Old Saybrook (4-1, 3-1), and Dana Pendleton went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
Boys'track
• Tony Facchini won the 110 hurdles, shot put and long jump as Norwich Free Academy edged East Lyme, 78-72, in the ECC Large Division. Dan Cardin won the 800 and 1,600 for the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0). Bill Dowd (110, 300 hurdles) and Ben Lakeman (200, 400) won two events apiece for the Vikings (2-1, 0-1).
• Jimmy Connelly won the 200 and 400 and ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams as Stonington beat Lyman Memorial on Thursday, 85-55, in the ECC Small. Cory Candelet won the 800, javelin and ran on the 4x400 relay for Stonington (1-2, 1-0) and Ryan Bolduc won the shot put and discus. Dan Shenkle won the 100 hurdles, high jump and long jump for the Bulldogs (0-3, 0-1).
Girls' track
• Kelsey Labas won the javelin and shot put and ran on the winning 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams as Lyman Memorial beat Stonington Thursday, 79-61, in the ECC Small Division. Stacie Savage won the 100 and 200 and ran on the 4x100 relay for Lyman (1-2, 1-0). Sophie Moore won the 100 and 300 hurdles and ran on the winning 4x800 relay for the Bears (1-2, 0-1) and Megan Rose Chapman won the shot put and discus.
• Jessica Forte and Alivia Royal finished second and third, respectively, in the long jump and New London defeated Parish Hill, 79-37. The Whalers also lost to Windham (110-30) and Plainfield (108-39).
Girls' tennis
• Old Lyme received singles wins from Alex Trausch, Lindsey Knepshield and Kaylyn Wiese during a 4-3 win over Haddam-Killingworth in the Shoreline Conference. Jenna Kowalski and Heather Johnson combined a win at No. 2 doubles for the Wildcats (3-2, 3-2).
Boys' tennis
• Williams School beat Bancroft 7-0. Josh Powell, Adam Verhoeff, Luke Lemieux and Sam Buffum won their singles matches for the Blues.
Boys' lacrosse
• Waterford scored seven goals in the first quarter and defeated Fitch, 13-9, in the ECC Large Division to stay unbeaten. Andrew Nasetta, Ryan Brouwer and Shawn O'Loughlin scored three goals apiece and Jake Wiseman made 11 saves for the Lancers (3-0, 2-0). Ian Bond scored a game-high four goals for Fitch (1-3, 0-2).
Girls' lacrosse
• Annie Nelson and Emily Hamilton scored three goals apiece in the Williams School's 17-6 loss to Lincoln. The Blues are 2-3.
• Claire Chambers scored five goals and Katherine Murphy added two goals in Stonington's 12-10 loss to Morgan-Clinton. The Bears are 2-2.
• Kat Cook, Lexi Hadcock, Taylor Farley and Erin Fritz had two goals apiece and East Lyme blanked Woodstock Academy, 17-0. Jane Bartlett made six saves for the Vikngs (2-1).
Local golf
• Elmridge Golf Course in Pawcatuck is holding an open house today and Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m., to introduce golfers to its new golf academy.
