    H.S. tennis roundup: Stonington girls beat Saints in battle of unbeatens

    Stonington — Hannah Fabianski, Emily Gardiner, Taylor Startz and Charlotte Johnstone all won singles matches as Stonington High School trounced St. Bernard 7-0 in a battle unbeaten Eastern Connecticut Conference girls' tennis divisional leaders on Monday.

    The doubles teams of Mallory McArdle-Claire Morehouse, Gina Feliciano-Morgan Parrilla and McKenzie Sadler-Jen Carroll also won for the Bears (10-0).

    The Saints are 8-1.

    In other matches:

    • East Lyme beat Ledyard by identical scores of 5-2 in the ECC Large Division, finishing off a match that was suspended by rain on April 22 and then beating the Colonels (2-8, 1-5) in the regularly-scheduled meeting. Sophia Shi, Lisa Gao and Kelly Peterec won singles matches for the Vikings (6-4, 4-2) in the April 22 match as did the doubles teams of Aimeee Cicchiello-Ravali Yenduri and Sejal Patel-Elisa Crane. Erika DeAndrade won at No. 3 singles for Ledyard while Lexi Dalton-Jenna McHale captured No. 1 doubles. On Monday, Julie Tan and Kelly Peterec won singles matches and the Vikings swept the doubles behind Cicchiello-Yenduri, Patel-Crane and Lily Slemp-Tanvi Dandekar. DeAndrade and Olivia Lyon won singles matches for Ledyard.

    • Old Lyme’s Meredith Aird won the No. 1 singles match 6-0, 6-0 in her team’s 7-0 win over Coginchaug in the Shoreline Conference. Emily Brault, Marissa Smith, and Shannon Nosal won their singles matches for Old Lyme. Hannah O’Brien and Keelin Hurtt, Kathleen Stedman and Cooper Kotzan, Holly Fiscus and Noel Brown all won at doubles.

    • Laura Krick won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 2 singles for Fitch in a 6-1 loss to Woodstock Academy in the ECC Large Division. Nina Lupo and Jillian Leger took their No. 1 doubles match to three sets before coming up short for the Falcons (5-4, 3-3), as did Jessica Cote at No. 4 singles.

    Boys

    • Fitch's William Baldwin outlasted Woodstock's Ben Piche 3-6, 6-4, 10-8 (tiebreaker) in the completion of a match that was suspended by rain last month to give the Falcons a 4-3 victory, but the Centaurs came back to win the regularly-schedule match 6-1 in the ECC Large Division. Geoff Cote and Matt Pastor also won singles matches in the suspended match for the Falcons, as did the doubles team of Chris Russo-Shiloh Feldman, but the Falcons (7-2, 4-2) picked up their only win in Monday's match from the No. 3 doubles team of Kush Kumar-Kevin Ryan.

    • East Lyme remained unbeaten in the ECC Large Division with a 7-0 win over Ledyard. Suryash Patel, Nick Hotary, Ashwin Menon and Ashish Joshi were singles winners for the Vikings (10-1, 7-0) while Eric Wu-Nipun Hewage, Mukesh Kurumbail-Charlie Lyden and Shahan Kamal-Conrad French teamed up in doubles. Menon won his match 7-6 (6), 5-7, 6-1.

    • St. Bernard swept the four singles matches, all in straight sets, to defeat Stonington 5-2. Alex Zuczek, Nick Zuczek, Eric Ostaszewski and David Abraham won for the Saints (4-5), as did the No. 2 doubles team of Tinh Nguyen-Shine Yang. The Bears (6-3) picked up doubles wins from Avish Patel-Chris Tsang and Will Pereira-Pablo Lominchar.

    • Montville's No. 3 doubles team of Mason Whittaker-Justin Martin pulled out a close 7-5, 7-5 victory to highlight the Indians' 7-0 win over Killingly. Carl Malinowsky-Tommy McDaniel and Tristan Pool-J.P. Aquino also won doubles matches for the Indians (4-6) as did singles players Hunter Stepanian, Rohit Sinha, Gerald Aquino and Justin Santacroce.

    • Jeff Zhang won the No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-0 as Old Lyme beat Coginchaug, 5-2, in the Shoreline Conference. Brendan White, Luke Grabowski, Charlie Dahlke and Ethan Fenton all won their singles matches by forfeit for Old Lyme as the Bellringers had players compete in doubles.
