    H.S. roundup: Ledyard boys erupt in second half to beat Berlin 91-80

    Ledyard — Five players scored in double figures and Ledyard erupted for 51 points in the second half to put outlast Berlin 91-80 in a nonleague boys' basketball game on Saturday night.

    Seamus McGrath led the Colonels (7-9) with 20 points and nine rebounds while Dorell Cagle added 18 points, Ken Turner had 15 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, Omar Whitmore scored 12 points and Elijah Morton added 10.

    Ledyard needs just one win to qualify for the state tournament.

    In other games:

    • Mason Jackson had 24 points and Nik Hay scored 21 as NFA beat Enfield 94-66 in a nonleague game. Xavier Marquez scored 15 and Jared Martin had 13 points for NFA (12-6), which led 64-21 at halftime. Kyle Menacker had 31 points for Enfield (9-8).

    • Zach Southard scored 26 points as Montville beat Wheeler 62-37 in an ECC Division IV game on Friday. Ryan Champagne had 10 points for Montville (7-10, 3-3). Ian Spracklin had 12 points and Scott Pion scored 10 for Wheeler (4-12, 0-7).

    Girls' basketball

    • Megan Bauman scored 22 points, including 12-for-12 from the foul line, as East Lyme outlasted RHAM 62-57. Sophie Dubreuil added 15 points, including three 3-pointers, for the Vikings (12-7) while Nadia Tarhini and Katie Durkee finished with 10 points apiece.

    • Aliza Bell had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Stonington to a 50-34 win over Woodstock Academy. Miranda Arruda added 12 points for the Bears (16-3) while Izzy Yarnall finished with seven points and eight rebounds.

    • Emily DeRoehn had 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals as Old Lyme cruised to a 58-29 victory over Haddam-Killingworth. Katey Battalino added 10 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Wildcats (13-5).


    • Evan Tower had two goals and two assists to highlight the Eastern Connecticut Eagles' 8-4 win over Hall/Southington. Kyle Jacobson added one goal and three assists for the Eagles (11-4-1) while Ryan Huta had two goals and one assist, Will Cannella scored twice, Ashton Baltes had one goal and one assist, Trent Hughson and Jake Verbridge each had an assist and goalie Rylin Fowler stopped 22 shots in goal.


    • Athletes from four different schools won titles during the annual Inigo Montoya tournament at Waterford. Ledyard's Jess Juono won girls' epee, Marine Science's Taylor Winiger-Sieve won girls' foil, Old Lyme's Will Bartlett won boys' epee and New London's Mekih Rodriguez won boys' foil. Seconds went to Old Lyme's Jade Hardgrove (girls' epee), Waterford's Taylor Roy (girls' foil), NFA's Henry Vanase (boys' epee) and Marine Science's Liam McCarthy (boys' foil), while thirds went to Marine Science's Lila Scroggins (girls' epee), Ledyard's Courtney Sizer (girls' foil), East Lyme's Nolan Deshane (boys' epee) and Old Lyme's Owen Palagonia (boys' foil), and fourths went to Fitch's Marianna Zulaga (girls' epee), NFA's Megan Juhola (girls' foil), Marine Science's Ray Mercedes (boys' epee) and Waterford's Cory Sammataro (boys' foil).
