H.S. football: Thames River beats Platt Tech for fourth straight win

Milford — Seth Cunningham rushed for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns as the Thames River Crusaders won their fourth straight with a 30-21 victory over Platt Tech in a Connecticut Technical Conference football game on Saturday at Foran High School.

The Crusaders (5-1, 5-1) held a slim 22-21 lead when they drove 65 yards late in the game for an insurance touchdown and two-point conversion that put the game out of reach. The final score came after the Thames River defense turned Platt Tech (1-4) over on downs when it was driving for a potential game-winning score.

Alexander Zair and Cole Occholini also had rushing touchdowns for the Crusaders while Cam Tompkins led the defense with two sacks and a forced fumble, Luis Aguilar had six tackles and Zair had four tackles and a fumble recovery.

"It was something special to watch these players not lose focus and play through until the end of the game," Thames River coach Darin Jones said. "Platt Tech gave us everything they had."
