H.S. roundup: NFA volleyball team sweeps Norwich Tech
Norwich — Host Norwich Free Academy swept Norwich Tech 25-19, 25-17, 26-24 in a boys' volleyball match on Monday.
Paul Ericson had six assists, five kills and four aces, Edwin Santana had five kills and two assists and Keegan Johnston had four assists and two kills for NFA (4-12).
Jared Enciso had nine assists, Tenzin Samten had five kills and four digs and Luis Santiago had five digs, three kills and two blocks for Norwich Tech (2-12).
Boys' track
• Montville picked up a pair of wins, beating St. Bernard 85-44 and Plainfield 80-53 in an Eastern Connecticut Conference Division III meet. Joseph Carter Vasington won the high jump (5-8) and long jump (19-6) for Montville (2-4, 1-3), Dylan Horkey won the 1600 (4:44.6) and was on a winning relay team and Zach Handler was on two winning relay teams. Cedrick Similien won the 100 (11.5) and triple jump for the Saints (1-4), who lost to Plainfield 72-48.
Girls' track
• St. Bernard beat Montville 76-71 and Plainfield 75-41 while Montville beat Plainfield 94-42 in an ECC Division III meet. Katie Power was a double winner for the Saints (4-1), taking the 400 (61.8) and triple jump (32.7). Sienna Sferazza, Riley Davis, Payton Lowe and Lindsey Reilly also won events for St. Bernard. Lyla Schultz and Kelsey Chiasson won events for Montville (3-3, 3-1).
Baseball
• Gavin O'Brien was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBI as East Lyme beat Ledyard 9-3. A.J. Montejano scored three runs, John Bureau drove in two runs and Connor Tukey scored twice for the Vikings (9-9). Cian Sullivan had two hits for Ledyard (7-11).
• Jack Perkins had two hits and scored three runs as Montville beat Wheeler 11-1 in five innings. Miles Sarmiento went the distance for the win for Montville (4-14). Spencer Reichart drove in the run for Wheeler (6-10).
• Grasso Tech rode the offensive efforts of Jaivon Velez and Reynaldo Hidalgo to a 20-0 win over Prince Tech in a five inning Connecticut Technical Conference game. Velez was 4-for-5 with a double, home run, four RBI and four runs scored while Hidalgo hit a three-run homer and finished with four RBI and four runs for the Eagles (8-6).
Girls' lacrosse
• Waterford and Ledyard played to a 5-5 tie in an ECC Division II game in double overtime. Madison McLeod had three goals, Lorelei England made six saves and Helena Robinson and Jess England each had a goal for Ledyard (5-9-1, 2-5-1). Madison Gates scored twice, Ilyanna Rivera made seven saves, Victoria Sturm, Quinn Brigham and Madison LaForte had goals and Marin Mahoney and Aidan Swansen had assists for Waterford (9-5-1, 6-1-1). Stonington (7-1) wins the Division title due to the tie.
• Sophia Gouveia scored six goals to lead Wheeler/Grasso Tech to a 10-6 win over St. Bernard in an ECC Division III game. Katelyn Melinosky had four goals for Wheeler (4-4, 4-2). St. Bernard is 2-9, 2-5.
• Ella Curtiss Reardon had seven goals and an assist as Old Lyme beat Cromwell 16-14 in a Shoreline Conference game. Emily Mesham and Caroline Crolius each scored three goals, Sydney Goulding had a goal and three assists and Grqace Arnold scored twice for the Wildcats (4-11, 3-8).
Boys' lacrosse
• Williams School beat Forman School 10-3 in a Housatonic Valley Athletic League semifinals. The Blues (9-4) host the winner of Tuesday's Harvey-Wooster game in the HVAL tournament final on Friday. Robbie Darling had three goals and two assists, Colby Potts made 10 saves, Cody Delaurentis had two goals and an assist, Brendan Li scored twice and Sterling Frost had two goals and five ground balls for Williams.
Boys' golf
• Plainfield beat Griswold 6-1 in an ECC Division III match. Owen Pappas won his match for Griswold (2-7, 2-2). Collin Williams of Plainfield was the medalist with a 52.
• Killingly beat Stonington 7-0 in an ECC Division II match. Cameron Seiffert of Killingly (6-0, 5-0) was the medalist with a 4-under-par 31 at Connecticut National, a score Killingly coach Kevin Marcoux believes to be a school record. Brandon Tavares shot a 39 for Stonington (7-7, 2-2).
Girls' golf
• Bacon Academy beat Canton 240-245 in a nonleague match. Morgan Maguire of Canton was the medalist with a 43 while Gianna Duckworth led the Bobcats (3-5) with a 55.
