    Chemical-free solution to killing weeds

I read with interest the article, “Former first selectman calls for investigation into use of weed killer in Stonington,” (June 14). I had read and now use a simple formula for weeds. Whether you can use this over large areas I do not know. Fill a bucket with water and add rock salt and liquid soap (some people add vinegar). Stir well. Let it sit for 24 hours and stir again to make sure salt is well dissolved, and then spray the weeds in the area. This should take care of the weeds in about 24 to 36 hours.

The soap helps the salt adhere to the weeds. Weeds should not return anytime soon. No gloves, masks etc.
