Carney places people above the politics

When I turn on the television, I watch government officials compete for airtime – not because they have a worthwhile message but because they want to be divisive. To say I’ve been frustrated by national politics recently is an understatement.

However, I am thankful not to feel that frustration when I go back to my hometown and see the work state Rep. Devin Carney is doing.

I could be considered biased, he has been dating my mother for the past seven years. I’ve had the privilege of seeing Devin speak eloquently about issues at family picnics and holidays and know how sometimes he must skip those events to stay late at the Capitol.

I’ve watched him do what few politicians do – genuinely listen to his constituents. He puts people over party politics, working across the aisle for important matters of public transportation, addressing the problem of sexual assault on campuses, and more. All of those interactions have helped me overcome my other bias – a Democrat’s distrust of Republican candidates.

So, to all of those who feel my same frustration at either the current administration or other politicians, I urge you to look deeper than party affiliation and consider who is best for the job. For the 23rd district, that person is Devin Carney.
