From photos to political debate, enjoying The Day

Congratulations to the photo staff for the great photos presented daily in The Day. On April 10, on the front page, was an action photo of a young man running with his horse on Rocky Neck State Beach. So original, it brought thoughts of our precious New England coastline. How fortunate we are to be so close.

In the Region section a young girl was seen performing on her skateboard on Pequot Avenue, a spectacular photo reminding me of my carefree days roller-skating.

Also, the guest commentary by Reverend Jones concerning the legalization of marijuana was on target. We have enough problems with alcohol and opioid addiction without adding legal pot. Shame on our leaders for being blind to the reality of cannabis, considering only the temporary financial gain and disregarding long-standing problems that would result.

In closing, Lee Elci’s column, “Freedom of speech,” was merely common sense! Difference of opinion is allowed in this country and we exercise this right every day in conversation, choosing which television show to watch or newspaper to subscribe to. Let us not stick our heads in the sand, but rather be open to all sides. Hoping and praying America will carry on its constitutional traditions while we endeavor to assure a better life for all Americans!

I for one will continue to read and support my local newspaper.
