Toll trucks, strictly enforce speed limits

High traffic corridor roads need to generate revenue. Here is how.

Trucks should pay tolls because their weight and speed damage road surfaces. Most truck traffic passes through the state, being the only means of transporting goods between New York and Boston. There is no rail freight service.

Cars tolls should not be required as the weight/road damage is much less. Workers are already squeezed by long commutes and cost of gasoline.

Enforce highway speed electronically for all vehicles. It will reduce cost, maintenance, fatalities, and generate income. Typical speeds are way above the posted 65 MPH limit, with 90 MPH not uncommon with little or no deterrent. Radar traps are impractical.

A good electronic, photographic, speed recording system with ticket by mail would go a long way toward restoring rational highway speed, safety, and lowering road deterioration. Loss of license and/or registration for multiple infractions or failure to pay would put teeth in the law. Coordinate and work with Rhode Island.

Highway speeds will decrease, road maintenance costs will decrease, posted limits will become meaningful, and the Connecticut balance sheet will improve.
