I support Frida Berrigan for mayor because she works to further what is best and joyful in our beautiful small city. Through her participation in Fresh New London, Saint Francis House, and the Community Land Trust, she is furthering the humane values that make New London a place where ordinary families − as well as those with challenges − can live and be happy. Her support of immigrants to our community honors the history of immigration in New London and Connecticut as a whole. As a mother with young children, she has an ear to the needs of young people in our city and a vested interest in improving schools. Her philosophy of non-violence and rational, honest debate and engagement with all sectors of the community is a crucial antidote to the brutal, dishonest discourse of President Donald Trump. 

Frida grew up in a family willing to go to prison rather than compromise their values of non-violence. I have no doubt that her conduct as mayor of New London will be scrupulously fair, ethical, and thoughtful.

While I respect the long community service of the other candidates, I think it's time for a mayor who truly understands that progress begins at the grass roots level.
