As a strong supporter of independent newspapers — and The Day in particular — and having often written in support of the exemplar photography staff, I wonder what has happened to coverage of North Stonington in your paper? 

There is no longer a staff reporter assigned to our town, resulting in no coverage of any board, commission or issue of public interest. Your excellent coverage of our town's pavilion construction in June was a result of my fervent request. 

During this past election I recollect two political letters were printed though others were submitted. No campaign article of the North Stonington race was written, no reporter came to interview the candidates; a mere phone call was made to the first selectman winner and less than a six-inch column was given to the results. 

Is our small town of 5,300 folks no longer important? Is there nothing happening here to warrant coverage? I understand advertising revenue, the lifeblood of newspapers, is declining as more people move toward digital online editions, but to not provide us with our fair share of newspaper coverage would only seem to hasten the demise of subscribers and ultimately your otherwise award-winning newspaper. Take heed!
