Trying to find sense in Middle East strategy discussion

Watching a Sunday morning news program, I heard a Republican senator call for the return of all our troops. He was stating this at the time of the killing of Iranian General Soleimani. He was not pleased with the justifications that were given for the killing and the new turmoil it brought to the region. He did not vote in favor of the bill that just passed one of the largest arms deals ever for Saudi Arabia, the worst enemy of Iran. The United States is now also supplying Saudi Arabia with troops.

Maybe this senator wants the troops home and ready, just in case the U.S. or Saudi Arabia decide it's time to clear out another so-called undesirable world leader in a country that happens to have the world's 4th largest oil reserve. Is it coincidence that this turmoil and events are happening because of the dissolvement of the nuclear arms deal? Is this their yellow cake? Does he want our troops home because he knows the outcome of these actions might require that our troops be needed in Iran instead?
