Witnesses needed for a cross examination

Late in Saturday morning’s Republican defense of President Trump in his impeachment trial, Deputy White House Counsel Patrick Philbin brought forward a basic tenet of our legal system: “Cross examination in our legal system is regarded as the greatest legal engine ever for the discovery of truth. It’s essential.” In so saying, Philbin gives compelling reason for opening the trial to further evidence provided by witnesses and other documentation and subject to cross examination.
