Time to dump Carney, back Rubino in 23rd

David Rubino’s op-ed was a great read, “23rd District voters should realize state, national races inextricably linked,” (July 14). He is right that Connecticut Republicans have been a disappointment. His opponent, Republican Devin Carney, is no different. Carney has had several terms in office and has not done much for the 23rd District (Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, Lyme, and the shore area of Westbrook).

Worse still, Carney has taken President Trump’s side in a number of important votes, despite wishing to appear like a moderate. Just take a quick look at his voting record. Carney voted against undocumented students, against a minimum wage increase, against paid family leave, against police reform, and in favor of ICE agents. A few bipartisan votes on popular issues does not change the fact that he votes for Trump’s America every chance he gets.

Carney is exactly the kind of politician we need to vote out of office right now if we really want to live in a stronger, healthier republic. Time for a change indeed.

Find his voting record at https://justfacts.votesmart.org/candidate/key-votes/154824/devin-carney and about police accountability legislation in the June 30 David Collins' column, "House GOP bucked police accountability."
