Support these selfless health care workers

We all need, all of us, to step back from our passions and recognize the heroes amongst us. I have had the privilege to be treated locally at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, but believe this profound experience occurs in every hospital, every COVID-19 ward, every ICU. It has nothing to do with beliefs but about sacrifice and bravery in the face of treating an uncontrolled and understood virus. Nurses, staff, janitors, security, doctors are all operating with a commitment to patients infected with a virus that is just as dangerous to these unsung heroes, who will insist they are just doing their job. They are taking risks that the public simply does not realize. It is enormous in relation to the needs of their patients. Whatever your faith, beliefs or just sense of right and wrong, we all must do everything we can in our power to try to help these heroes.

All of you are blessed with a shared commitment, taking the chances caring for patients knowing their service could bring sickness, even death. Please let’s support all these selfless health care workers and try to keep them safe. I will be forever grateful for the care I received.
