Vaccine plan flawed, Lamont should reconsider

I have appreciated living in a state with a strong pandemic response, but Governor Lamont’s vaccine rollout plan is seriously flawed.

I understand the intended speed of distributing the vaccine by age, but the plan excludes younger people who are high risk. If they are not given access to the vaccine, they could suffer from serious health consequences. A 25-year-old with a serious health condition should receive the vaccine before a healthy 35-year-old.

Vaccinating certain young people also makes sense to help reduce the spread of the virus. It makes more sense to vaccinate a 20-year-old grocery store worker than a 40-year-old who works from home.

These are the reasons that the CDC, Biden Administration, scientists, and other states continue to account for health and exposure, as well as age, in their vaccine rollout. Connecticut should do the same. Lamont could easily set aside a few thousand vaccines (at least) for people in high-risk medical groups and high exposure jobs, regardless of age. It is the right thing to do.
