    More ideas for Fort Trumbull

I read your editorial, “Transforming Fort Trumbull, without a Coast Guard Museum” (Jan. 16), and agree with many of your points. However, I have some suggestions:

    [naviga:ul]

[naviga:li] Build the museum at Fort Trumbull on the grounds to the left of the fort overlooking the river and the Coast Guard station.[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li]The city could assist the national museum committee with getting the state to "rent" the park to the national museum for $1 a year with certain stipulations as to use and maintenance of the grounds. The state would probably welcome this as they do not have enough employees to maintain what they own.[/naviga:li]

[naviga:li]The $20 million for the bridge to nowhere planned to go over Water Street and the railroad tracks that no one will maintain properly could be used to put a walkway from downtown to Fort Trumbull next to the train bridge that would automatically raise and lower with the train bridge.[/naviga:li]

    [/naviga:ul]

I realize that this is not as simple as I make it out to be, but it would be a better location, high enough not to have to worry about hurricanes and it would allow for outdoor activities to take place along the water and piers.
