High-density trailer park is not the answer for Waterford

Waterford resident and business owner Scott Gladstone has proposed developing a 16-acre wooded back lot adjacent to Clark Lane Middle School. The town disapproved the development for numerous reasons. He decided to bypass the town of Waterford and its residents by using the 8-30g affordable housing law. There is nothing wrong with affordable housing, however the manner in which he is using it is nothing short of bullying residents. He proposes to place a high-density development of 47 trailers on slabs 10 feet apart, on a private road onto a main thoroughfare. He is proposing a trailer park with double-wide trailers. Fourteen of the trailers will be affordable. The high-density development will destroy the quality of life and equity (paying a 30-year mortgage) for residents living on Clark Lane. Many are older and counting on their home equity for a secure retirement. A high-density development with people living in overcrowded conditions will be unattractive and problematic. Clark Lane is overburdened with traffic and needs a police officer to get children across Clark Lane to school. We understand the need for affordable housing. A high-density trailer park that endangers all for one man’s profit (Gladstone) is not the answer.
