City needs the ideas of creative candidates

Congratulations to the members of New London Main Street for their selection of seven new board members from diverse professions.

Having a representative from Mitchell College and Connecticut College is very important. Donna Simpson's broad experience in tourism and her residency in downtown New London, and also Frank McLaughlin's residency, bodes well for the future of the district. Having seniors who own homes in our downtown sets an example for the future. New London needs to become a more owner-occupied city.

Penny Parsekian has done a great job building a core of volunteers and maintaining a strong presence as the chief executive officer of New London Main Street.

Let us hear some creative proposals from our mayoral candidates about how they would work with Main Street to further promote the future of New London and its downtown entry points.
