Shorten U.S. elections to save money

I remember once seeing a British prime minister do a television interview in which he said that they can only campaign for about a month and spend roughly $42,000 and, sorry, Mr. Trump, but you can't spend your own money either!

I did a little research into the law, and although I don't understand all the legalese, it boils down to a saner election process. The people who donate to a political party or candidate are strictly limited as to both who can donate and how much they can donate.

There are no fundraising dinners or paid television or print ads! The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will set aside free time close to an election for party and candidate coverage and each candidate is permitted one free public mailing. How refreshing is that?

No billions wasted on lengthy campaigns, no ongoing mudslinging campaign ads, no public campaigning for the next election two years ahead of time, no mail boxes stuffed with redundant ads and you could watch the news without all those ads every five minutes.

They say it could not happen here because the printers, the local businesses, television stations, campaign stops, etc. make too much from all the political campaign spending. But wouldn't it be nice?
