Modern day Nero?
On May 17, President Trump said in his commencement address at the Coast Guard Academy that “no politician in history – and I say this with great surety – has been treated worse or more unfairly.”
Perhaps Trump felt that the unfairness might lead to his impeachment, so better to ward it off if it’s not too late.
But think back for a moment to Nero, the Roman emperor in the first century A.D. Nero’s reputation has long been summarized as having fiddled while Rome burned. That is, he was crazy.
If impeachment had been a legal procedure in ancient Rome, Nero would have been impeached.
President Trump has good reason to look back to a Roman emperor.
