Actually, it is a witch hunt that Trump faces

This is in response to the editorial, “This is not a witch hunt,” (June 17).

Actually, it is a witch hunt.

The definition is, “a campaign directed against a person or group holding unorthodox or unpopular views.” Using the archaic definition, as The Day did, is disingenuous, and the comparison to Watergate, a known crime, misleading. Scooter Libby’s prosecution fits, however. Knowing that Libby was not the leaker of Valerie Plame’s identity, Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzpatrick hounded Libby into perjury.

Today’s witch hunt began Election night. Trump’s unexpected victory led immediately to hysterical Democratic calls for impeachment. Overnight, Russian interference in the election became a relentlessly pursued story. When the collusion probe yielded no evidence, Democrats and the media promoted obstruction, based on James Comey’s alleged memo leaked to influence the hiring of a special prosecutor.

Rather than meet on the battlefield of ideas, the Democrats and media have used personal attacks and vicious tactics to discredit and vilify Trump and his supporters. The Day should be ashamed promoting their narrative.

The true Deplorables are those who seek to subvert the rule of law and our election system because they did not get their way. A better choice is to face our differences civilly and search for common ground. The media could help by reporting facts, without bias.
