Working with New London to combat downtown blight

I am submitting this on behalf of the Center City Taxing District of New London.

The district, in cooperation with New London Main Street, initiated a blight committee in February 2017. We have spent the last seven months identifying the blight issues in our central business district and how to proceed with enforcing the existing ordinances.

We recently submitted to the city’s blight officer, Kenya Haye, 23 presumed ordinance infractions by property owners. Haye has been professional, helpful and responsive to our needs. He has followed up on all our submissions and is addressing each infraction with due diligence. We are happy to report that there are some positive results due to the enforcement procedure and are optimistic that there will be continued positive improvement. It is our intention to continue with the City Center District Blight Committee if necessary.

We commend Mayor Michael Passero, Development and Planning Director Tammy Daugherty, Haye and the staff of the City of New London for their efforts regarding this issue and are looking forward to their continued support.

    Frank McLaughlin

    Secretary, City Center District
