We need to replace the powerful

Governor Lamont had his first “debt diet” Bond Commission meeting holding true to his word. The legislature’s upset now, so there's a bill to reorganize the commission, removing the governor’s authority, replacing it with legislators.

Since November 2017, the Bond Commission met eight times, and has obligated us to finance $7.7 billion for various road and school projects and others we do need to fund. Many, though, are pet projects, pushed through by the powerful in our legislature. Everyone wants tax reform.

Who is going to be the next GE to leave our state — General Dynamics? Sikorsky? Pratt and Whitney? We're the only New England state still losing population, and what's the Capitol doing, finding ways to increase our taxes. What’s sad is we have ourselves to blame. We change the governor and hope for the best. Worked for you? We need to replace the powerful. Governor, I like the debt diet but not your tolls and tax expansion. Legislators, you're not controlling spending and now you want the Bond Commission! Connecticut, only we can change this, and we missed the boat last November. Time to keep tabs on those who aren't voting what we need: tax relief!
