Shameful that The Day ignored meaningful military Mass

I served on active duty in the U.S. Coast Guard for 22 years and have now been a civilian employee at the Coast Guard Academy for another 19 years. I am not Catholic, but on Nov. 3 I attended the Red, White and Blue Mass in honor of the Military at St. Patrick Cathedral in Norwich.

In the Nov. 4 edition of The Day, only minimal mention was made of that wonderful event. It was buried in a story about a protest outside the Cathedral. I feel badly for victims of all kind; and I do not suggest their actions are not newsworthy. But the military community in southeastern Connecticut has been a wonderful neighbor to New London. I would think The Day would have found it newsworthy that active duty, reservists, auxiliarists, and retirees from every branch of the service came together, young and old, an admiral and cadets and master chiefs and more to celebrate the many contributions made by our brothers and sisters in uniform and to ask God's blessing on this noble profession.

This lack of coverage speaks volumes to the value The Day places on military service; and yet, we will continue to serve this great nation to ensure you have the right to print − or not print − the stories you find "worthy." Shame on you.
