In response to the article "New London must stop motorcycle roar," (July 7), I certainly understand many people’s annoyance with loud motorcycles, but the article was one-sided. I am a motorcyclist, 63 years old, a grandmother and a mother. There is a reason that most riders have loud mufflers. Mainly, it is because cars have the tendency to pull out in front of motorcyclists because they think they can "beat" them to the road they wish to turn on, and they think the motorcycle can stop faster than the car. I cannot tell you how many times this has happened to me and to other members of my family and our friends. It is always, "I didn't see them." Well, maybe they will hear them, hence the reason behind the loud motorcycles.

Motorcyclists are some of the kindest people I know. They donate time and money to worthy causes. They bring children Christmas gifts, in the cold, on their motorcycles. They attend benefits and rallies that help many organizations. So, while you are doling out your dislike of loud motorcycles, think of this, and think of the danger that you put us in every time you drive distractedly or pull out in front of one of us.
