    Historic climate session

Thank you for prioritizing the report by Sten Spinella on the Environmental Scorecard for this year’s legislative session, provided by the CT League of Conservation Voters, “League of Conservation Voters grades state legislators’ environmental records,” (Aug. 17).

Climate change mitigation, clean energy, efficient transportation, protection of our natural resources and wildlife, protecting our air and water from toxins, and other environmental bills widely supported by the public were passed by our Senate and House of Representatives and signed by the Governor in this historic session.

Moreover, funding for these initiatives will be supported significantly by the recent passage of the IRA climate bill at the federal level. Today’s investments in these programs will not only boost Connecticut’s economy but will save many times over in future costs to health, safety, storm and fire damage, and loss of agriculture that threaten the sustainability of many of our communities.

The scorecard (found at ctlcv.org) is an eye-opener for those concerned with how they are represented on environmental issues in the legislature and deciding who to vote for this November.

    Dr. David Bingham
