Through tenacious efforts, he has helped generate a $22.2 billion contract between the Navy and Electric Boat to build the initial stages of Virginia Class submarines, which will significantly benefit eastern Connecticut’s economy. Construction of nine submarines will continue until 2023, and a 10th will probably follow. (The final work is done by Newport News Shipping.)

Joe, a tenacious congressman, is the chairman of the formidable Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee that oversees all submarine and ship construction programs. That is probably why a Connecticut Magazine poll declared him the “Most Conscientious” legislator and “Democrat Most Admired by Republicans.” He works cooperatively with the Republicans for our benefit.

He has labored tirelessly to reduce the cost of education, expand vocational education programs, and support our veterans. Joe has also been a determined advocate for affordable health care and better access to mental health and opioid treatment. And one of his highest priorities is improved infrastructure.

My vote and yours in November are the best ways we can show our appreciation for Congressman Joe Courtney’s impressive service.
