    Trains needs cupholders and tables

I read about the meeting regarding commuter rail and shoreline east which took place a few months ago, “Possible Shore Line East expansion, current service subject of public meeting,” (Sept. 21).

As a regular commuter from New London to New Haven, I spoke with our group and realized that none of the regulars had been able to attend or had learned about the meeting, although most had read about it in The Day afterward.

As many know, Shoreline East has new electrified and red-cushioned trains for the past six months — they are great — and the schedule allows you to commute to work from and back at more than just one time (e.g. 6:30 a.m. and 3:28 p.m. only) is really amazing. It partly ameliorates the misery of being pushed off most of the Amtrak trains that we were welcomed on pre-Covid (just partly). But everyone who relies on these trains agrees, we need:

    1) Cup-holders to avoid the many coffee spills, 2) tables (for commuter work — recall that is the main advantage of not driving beyond saving the planet), 3) trashcans.

The DOT is having another meeting, with exciting plans to expand service, but what about the tables?
