Union workers shut out of pandemic premium pay

I would like to congratulate my fellow union brothers and sisters from U.S.W. 9411-03 on their successful attempt to receive Pandemic Premium Pay recognition from the Town of Groton through the A.R.P.A. Grant Program.

It would make one wonder why the A.R.P.A. Grant request from U.S.W. 9411-00 was not given equal recognition by the Town of Groton. It could not be as I heard one councilor comment “That’s Groton Utilities, that is the City of Groton.”

Speaking for myself, a Water Department Distribution System Operator, I spent as much time if not more working in the Town of Groton than anywhere else during the pandemic maintaining and enhancing our system for all our customers.

Let me publicly recognize the superb effort put forth by my members working in the water and wastewater fields before, during, and after the pandemic. I know it does not make up for your losses during those difficult months but it is more than the Town, or City, or the management of Groton Utilities has done for you.

    Kevin M. Ziolkovski

    U.S.W. 9411-00 Unit Chairman
