‘Rinky-dink’ meetings need coverge from local papers
It was what some would consider a rinky-dink meeting. A sparsely attended regular meeting of the Ledyard Inland Wetlands Commission. Exactly the type of thing a reporter for The Day would have covered.
Short staffed, and pre-occupied with the state budget, no local newspaper was able to cover the meeting. But how much could happen in one little meeting on wildfire-smoke-filled-night?
A proposal came before the commission to blast 20 acres of rock and ledge. The town planner said this rock will be sold for use in offshore wind projects.
Another proposal, outlined plans to blow up Decator Mountain. remove multiple wetlands and if I am understanding it correctly, remove a former latex paint "composting" dump made by DOW Chemical. The request by the applicant to remove monitoring wells in advance of disturbing the material being monitored caught my attention.
I lament the loss of Sten Spinella and Kevin Arnold from The Day's newsroom.
