    Off-putting fat-shaming headline

The title to Dave Collins' June 29, 2023 column, “He's fat and GOP, but Christie is my guy,” was off-putting, to say the least, especially reading it in The Day. Pointing out that Christie is “fat” is crude, unnecessary and mean-spirited. It's a cheap shot and The Day should be embarrassed at printing it. That Donald Trump revels in pointing out that Christie is over-weight is no reason for The Day to compound such casual cruelty. If I want to read cruel, over-the-top headlines, I'll scan (but not buy, thank you) The NY Post. At least some of their headlines are funny, in a cringe-worthy way. The headline of Collins' column is certainly cringe-worthy, but not funny at all. Never did I think I'd be comparing The Day to The NY Post. Another sign of the apocalypse? The Day has now gone down the fat-shaming road. What's next? Making fun of a candidate for office who is short? Bald? Wears white after Labor Day?
