Frustrated these days by the crazy politics of both the Republicans and the Democrats in Groton, but still believe in democracy? Then vote the person, not the party. If you believe one-party rule isn’t healthy for our town, look for candidates such as Portia Bordelon and David McBride, who believe in the policies and principles of open government, transparency and the importance of seeking out and respecting public input; candidates who believe that the role of the Town Council is not to make decisions based on one-sided input from the town manager, but rather to require a well-researched list of pros AND cons, so as to not just rubber stamp his recommendations. The latter is what led to the Mystic Oral School and Data Center fiascos which are still a noose around our fiscal necks. And this November, for the first time we have the chance to consider the Groton Independents Party, who are running five candidates for Town Council who come from both sides of the aisle. Check out those five candidates: Genevieve Cerf, Scott Westervelt, Bruce McDermott, Bill Furgueson and Lauren Gauthier before you vote for up to nine candidates for the Groton Town Council.
