    Beware distraction larcenies

The Day had an article in the Region section Oct. 27, “Police say man stole cash, jewelry by ”distraction“ in Greenwich. After reading it, I wanted to let your readers know that this type of robbery happened to me in New London inside ShopRite. A man, who didn't seem to speak English, came up to me as I was looking at some produce. He seemed to want to know the price. As I was trying to show him the price, his accomplice took my wallet right put of my purse. I never saw him or noticed his presence by me. My cart was right next to me. I never leave my purse unattended, but I wasn't looking because I was being the Good Samaritan and trying to help this other thief. I thought it odd when he just walked away, and then checked my purse; it couldn't have been more than a couple of minutes later. The store employee told me that was the third time this happened! He must have targeted me too, because I noticed him in the parking lot. So you must be extra vigilant, especially seniors. I have a small cross-body purse now that I shop with. There's plenty of job opportunities now and social services that no one should need to be pulling this type of thing to survive.
