    Questionable protest signs reveal ignorance

In the accompanying photo to The Day AP article, “Biden met with cheers, jeers in Mich.” (Feb. 2), two signs caught my interest, “Feminists say no to genocide” and “Free Palestine.” How can the protest marchers call themselves feminists without condemning Oct. 7, when Hamas committed many rapes, genital mutilation and murder of hundreds of Israeli women? These atrocities were conducted along with the massacre of hundreds more Israelis, the mutilation of babies and the war crime of the kidnapping of over 200 civilians. The other urged Americans to call for a ceasefire now. Why now? After all, it was Hamas, who on Oct. 7, broke the ceasefire that was then in place. I admire how Israel is not only defending itself from an enemy that has vowed to never stop fighting it, but that Israel is seeking to free the Gaza population from the tyranny of the Hamas dictatorship. It is too bad that Hamas has spent untold amounts of money on tunnels, missiles and rockets, rather than building up the people with new industry, attracting tourists and admitting that since Israel's withdrawal in 2005, the “refugees” have now been settled in their own country, looking to the future without any outside interference.
